Richard Powers Donates to Anglers for Conservation PDF Print E-mail

Richard Powers OriginalWhen Frostproof, Florida resident, Richard Powers, offered to donate an original piece of artwork to help raise money for the Anglers For Conservation, past AFC's Executive Director, Barb Eager was overwhelmed with excitement and gratitude. For the past decade, Richard, a sixth generation Floridian, has been catching the attention of art lovers nation wide, with his art depicting wildlife and old Florida settings.

Richard's strong passion for the outdoors and fishing was nurtured as a result of the time he spent with his father in Florida's outdoors. "Richard understands the importance of getting kids outdoors with their family. When Richard decided to do a rendition of Coastal Angler Magazine's June/July 2001 cover shot, we knew we were on to something special,” said Barb. "The cover image depicts four boys and their yellow Labrador at the back of a boat living up the Florida life style." For this reason, Coastal Angler Magazine used Richard’s rendition of this past cover shot for its June 2009 cover. Richard used the image of this cover shot as the theme for his art, Angling For Memories, for the AFC donation.

The money raised by Richard's donation will support our Hook Kids on Fishing programs. These programs are conducted around the state in Florida's fishing communities, and supported by other non-profit groups such as the Fish Florida Foundation (www.fishfloridatag.org), and the Florida Outdoor Writers Association (www.fowa.org). The two-hour Hook Kids on Fishing educational programs are designed for children and their families and focus on safety, fun, conservation and techniques for fishing in Florida’s abundant waters.

Some of the money raised will also be used to support other AFC objectives which include education and conservation efforts, community charities, and help sponsor restoration activities to improve fishery production and opportunities for future generations while building bridges between recreational anglers and scientist and fishery managers.
